Archibald and Betsy Campbell have been happily married for 34 years thus far and hope for at least 34 more! They have 10 children, with nine living, one in heaven, and five grandchildren so far. They have primarily home educated, though the Campbells have also used private, public, charter, and correspondence schools as needed over the years of educating their children.
Archibald Campbell is the instructor for most classes. He has earned a Bachelor of Elementary Education with Speech Minor and taught three years in the Hawaii state public schools. Then, while pioneering, directing and running a preschool for six years, he earned his Masters of Education degree in Early Childhood Education. Now in Alaska, he is president of Let’s Build the Family 501(c)(3) and has taught supplemental classes for homeschooling families for more than a decade. Andrew and Gabrielle Satterfield have enjoyed 17 years of marriage and are blessed with four children, plus one in heaven. Inspired by Andrew’s homeschooling experience, they chose to home-educate their children, successfully balancing this with running a small business. This venture afforded them the flexibility to be deeply involved in their children’s education and development.
Over the years, they have embraced the benefits of small group classes and co-ops, observing their children’s growth and success in a parent-directed learning environment. In 2023, driven by their conviction that every child has unique needs and strengths, and the belief in the vital role of strong families, Andrew and Gabrielle founded Monarch. Their goal is to offer more educational opportunities for children in the Anchorage school area, fostering a nurturing and supportive community.
Why the name Monarch? Monarch butterflies are generational migrators, each completing a journey without prior experience. We believe every child carries a royal identity, needing purpose and passion during their journey to fulfill their mission in life.

Mr Tayman has been married to Susan since 1993 and has 3 adult kids. All of which have experienced the “homeschool” path in different forms graduating from High School under a local Charter School banner. He has lived in the Anchorage area for over 35 years graduating from High School at West in 1979, and from UAF in 1984. Before his teaching career he was a Geologist for the federal government for 37 years working in the oil and gas exploration realm.
Mr Tayman has been teaching since 2011 but has been a facilitator of small group interaction for over 20 years. His passion is history, geology and US Government. Each topic is presented with the desire to bring to life foundational principles of our Earth or our nation, and how they survive or thrive through time. His enthusiasm for teaching shows up each class encouraging students to ask questions as well as to absorb the lessons taught each week. Over the decades he has acquired many samples from history and geology making each class a unique experience. Come expecting to learn, and you won’t be disappointed. I am Regina—wife, mother, and “G” to my grandkids.
I’ve been married for 38 years and have lived in Alaska for 51 years. I play racquetball, make escape boxes, create digital art, and write. I had the joy of teaching my two children throughout their 12 years of learning, and more recently, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching my grandchildren.
I love working with pre-adults—they’re curious and transparent. They love to play, and I believe play is one of the best tools for teaching.
My mission while teaching my children was to give them tools for a lifelong love of learning.
Finding knowledge through reading, research, and asking questions is foundational. I emphasize the importance of understanding processes, thinking things through, and becoming independent thinkers—capable of drawing conclusions based on their own research and knowledge, while remaining open to challenge.
Applying that knowledge with integrity, wisdom, courage, and humility is essential.
I want to see children expand their goals in life and learn to think outside the box.
The mind, heart, and body must all be trained—to seek advancement without becoming exasperated.
I value rich environments where necessary learning is integrated with fun.
Each child matters. Each child has a purpose in this world. Every child should see their own value in doing excellent work—so they, in turn, can enrich the lives of others they encounter.

Carol Dunfee – has been married for 25 years. She and her husband have three kids: two in high school and one in college. Her teaching journey started with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with teaching fields in music and math. She later received a master’s degree in Music while studying with a concert pianist. After teaching piano for many years, she began homeschooling her children in 2017, homeschooling every grade from 1-12 at least once.
Home education introduced Carol to the Institute for Excellence in Writing. She has taught local IEW classes for four years, integrating writing, grammar, and literature in an interactive group setting. The same skill mastery that she uses in her piano lessons, she also uses in her IEW classes. Students master one skill before adding the next one. Over time, continued practice brings mastery. Experienced writers learn to polish wording and organize their thought processes. Even struggling writers show great improvement through this approach. Literature is integrated into her courses using whole books that have stood the test of time. Students get to spend time with the characters, get to know them, and discuss the outcomes of their adventures.
